WIPpet Wednesday: "You Can Go"

See SLAVE AGAIN on amazon
Happy Wednesday, friends! Since this is the fourth Wednesday of the month, here are four paragraphs for you to (hopefully) enjoy from my current Work In Progress. Working title is TORN ASUNDER. I'd love to know what you think.

She met Simon’s gaze with a look that made his heart capsize. Agent Sin helped her to her feet, and Simon almost detected a certain amount of chivalry in his touch.

“You can go,” he whispered and then barked into his radio, “Get the girl out of here.”

Simon yanked once more at his restraints. Don’t let them hurt her, he begged. Would he ever see her again? Did she know how much he … Simon called out her name. She turned to him, but when he saw her face, he couldn’t speak. Her eyes were filled with intense sorrow.

Sorrow, and unmistakable pity.

  1. Another tense moment. Hmm...pity. I'm thinking that's not exactly what Simon wanted to see there.

    I like the title, BTW.

  2. But... but... ARRRGH.

    You're killing me, Terry. -_-

I like the title, but it doesn't really grab me. It would be easy enough to remember if I'd read the blurb, but if I were just scrolling through new releases, I wouldn't get a sense of what it was about. With an eye-catching cover, though, it could work.

(Said the author with vague, one-word titles, who admittedly hates coming up with titles and is bad at it. Ignore me. Seriously)

  3. Great snippet - you certainly know how to keep us on the edge of our seats with all that tension. More, I tell you, I want more! :-)

  4. I think it's interesting how Simon pitied her and then it was turned back on him. Can't wait to read more about these characters and this world.

  5. Interesting how he's anxious for them not to hurt her, but then she's pitying him. Makes me wonder what he's thinking in response to her.

I like the title, though if I were browsing books, I might wonder what genre it was. That's the difficulty with online sellers like Amazon. You can't really tell anything about a book when browsing because you have to click the link for a description.

    1. Thanks for bringing up the genre point. It's a good one.

  6. I love the title, maybe because I frequently use that image as a theme in my own writing...matter of fact, I'm currently revising a scene of Chameleon's Dish (pending title change, possibly), that uses the threat of being torn asunder as its motivating force...

Very intriguing snippet. I want to know what's going on here, and what comes next!

  7. Oooh... the pity. No ma'am wants to see that on his woman's face. Compassion, yeah, okay, but pity? Ouch.
